Drop bars not bombs
Yo bro's. The weather is beautiful and the ABES should take full advantage of the upcoming holiday. Is anybody interested in an early Wednesday afternoon bike ride/race? Maybe a fire and dogs? Let me know who's interested and who wants to do what. JS
I could be persuaded
ReplyDeleteJust a reminder...Wednesday is NOT a holiday. It is a day of remembrance for those who sacrificed so much.
ReplyDeleteThe response to the Wednesday afternoon bike ride has been underwhelming. I'm going on a long, slow ride around town to sniff out possible race sites at 1:30 if anybody is interested. B.Y.O.B.
ReplyDeleteIt's a holiday for me because I don't have to go to work and I get paid. It's not a holiday for you because you're self employed.
If I don't see you there - happy day of remembrance. JS
It's not a holiday for anyone my ignorant friend. It's a day of remembrance. And it's not meant to be happy.
ReplyDeleteIf this is a semantical issue i'll offer the definition of Holiday that I found:
ReplyDelete- a day fixed by law or custom on which ordinary business is suspended in commemoration of some event or in honor of some person. Do you find that a reasonable definition? JS
I think the issue is the mood of the holiday. As it seems, bicycling appears to be too joyous an activity to be appropriate for Remembrance Day. Kind of like Easter. Is it appropriate to say "Happy Easter"? It's a "holiday" according to etymologist (or is it entomologist?) Jonny. But, like Remembrance Day is it a "merry" holiday? We certainly don't celebrate Christ's death by torquing around on two wheels every Good Friday--Highly inappropriate. Instead we devour chocolate herbivores. We must find a more suitably somber activity for Remembrance Day--one that doesn't include gears, chains, or pedals.
ReplyDeleteI hear what you're saying. I'm not sure how riding bike and getting together with friends could ever be considered inappropriate. JS
ReplyDeleteWhen have we as a group ever been appropriate?
ReplyDeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteAll this being said, I will join you for the 1:30 ride...BUT...BUT... I will be eating a chocolate easter bunny as I ride to legitimate this activity.
ReplyDeleteJust ware a poppy or an MCC pin and we will be promting remembering as we ride - as the gears and chains of this world struggle for peace through use of redemptive violence they will fail - but we will use our gears and chains to help us find inner peace.
ReplyDeletePeace Brothas!
Dan, Duke and I had a nice ride on a sunny afternoon. A beautiful skid contest space was discovered, we raced against motorcycles on the kids course at the motox track, went to Dan's garden in the country and ate carrots. We were not happy. JS
